Signs you have a problem with squirrels
- Thumping, scratching or running in the loft, mostly in the morning and evening
- Chewed timber, cables or pipe lagging
- Shredded insulation or nest material
- Squirrels seen going in and out of gaps in the roofline
Why it's worth dealing with quickly
Squirrels chewing electrical cables can cause a fire risk, and they can damage roof timbers, water tanks and stored belongings.
How we treat squirrels
- Survey the loft and roofline to find entry points
- Remove squirrels legally and humanely (grey squirrels can't legally be released)
- Proof gaps in the roof, eaves and soffits
- Advice on any repairs needed to wiring or insulation
How to stop them coming back
- Cut back tree branches near the roof
- Keep soffits, fascias and roof tiles in good repair
- Use squirrel-proof bird feeders away from the house
Questions about squirrels
Can't you just release them somewhere else?
No. Grey squirrels are an invasive species and it's illegal to release them into the wild once caught.
Is it a squirrel or a rat in my loft?
Squirrels are mostly active during the day, especially early morning, while rats are more active at night. We can confirm during a survey.
