Signs you have a problem with wasps
- Lots of wasps flying in and out of the same spot, such as a gap in the eaves or a hole in the ground
- A papery, grey nest in a loft, shed, garage, hedge or bird box
- Wasps appearing inside the house, often near windows or loft hatches
- A chewing or crackling sound from a wall or ceiling
Why it's worth dealing with quickly
Wasps defend their nest aggressively and can sting repeatedly. Stings are painful for everyone and dangerous for people who are allergic.
How we treat wasps
- Locate the nest and its entrance
- Apply a professional insecticide directly into the nest or entrance
- Activity drops sharply within hours and the nest dies off within a day or two
- Advice on whether the nest should be removed once it's inactive
How to stop them coming back
- Check sheds, lofts and eaves in spring, when nests are small
- Seal gaps in eaves, soffits and air bricks
- Keep bins closed and clear up fallen fruit in late summer
- Don't try to block or knock down an active nest yourself
Questions about wasps
Do you need to remove the nest?
Usually not. Once treated, the nest dies off and wasps don't reuse old nests. We can remove it if it's accessible and you'd like it gone.
Are they wasps or bees?
Wasps are bright yellow and black with a smooth body; bees are hairier and browner. If they're bees, see our bee removal service, as we relocate them where possible.
How long does it take?
Most wasp nest treatments take less than an hour, and we can usually come the same day.
